Dr. Adrian Richard Upton

It is a sad day for the family of Adrian Upton following a sudden illness. Although he received excellent care at the Hamilton General, and Juravinski Hospitals, he succumbed to his injuries on February 2, 2026, a few days before his 86th birthday.

Cherished and loving husband of Patricia Upton. He will be missed by his daughter, Dr. Julia Upton, son in law David, son Damian, and grandchildren Clara and Donovan. Lovingly remembered by his brothers, Philip and Andrew, and many extended family and friends.

Adrian collaborated for many years with Dr. Alan McComas. They came to Canada to be some of the earliest neurological specialists in 1971 at McMaster University Medical Centre.

Adrian had a fantastic education at Clifton College (Bristol), then the Peterhouse (Cambridge) , Guys hospital (London), and then the Neurologic hospital at Queens Square (London). He was the author of over 400 academic papers and several books.

Seizure disorders were one of his specialties. He was always thinking and trying to find better ways to help his patients. He traveled widely for many years to present new ideas for a variety of neurological disorders and was a popular and entertaining speaker. He was also ambidextrous and could write with both hands in different configurations, much to the entertainment of audiences or colleagues.

The cremation has taken place, and we will honor him with a Celebration of Life at a later date to be decided.
