Fred Selman passed away on January 13, after a brief illness. He was 75.
He was the beloved son of Fred and Millie Selman, and a devoted husband to Maureen, his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years. Fred is survived by his loving wife Maureen; his brother Jim and sister Sharon; his children Lisa (Pete), Kim (Jeremy), Mike (Brittany), and Andrew (Kylie); and his cherished grandchildren Georgia, Dylan, Miles, Mac, Hazel, and Alfie.
Fred enjoyed a highly successful business career that took him across the world. He met people from every walk of life and built lasting relationships wherever he went. Whether in a boardroom abroad or at a coffee shop on Ottawa Street, Fred had a gift for personal connection. He remembered names, stories, and faces, and made people feel seen.
Chances are if you met Fred once, he remembered you and you remembered him. Fred met the love of his life Maureen, at Westdale High School. Together they built a life rooted in love and family, raising four children and later relishing in the joy of their six grandchildren.
He loved the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for nature. He was a gifted storyteller, an avid bird watcher, and above all, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His warmth, laughter, and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The Selman family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Arbour Creek, Hamilton Health Sciences, and the PSWs who worked so hard to care for Fred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society Foundation in Fred’s memory.
