It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lefty Barbe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, who departed this life on July 7th, 2025 at the age of 93.
Born on September 2, 1931 in Coniston, Lefty lived a life defined by love, faith, and unwavering devotion to those around him. A devoted husband to Helen Barbe (predeceased), his marriage was a testament to true partnership, filled with laughter, support, and enduring love.
He was the proud father of John (Diane), Judy (Ken), grandfather to Miku, Leo, Kaili (Steven); Bobby (Ashley), Andy, Christine (Will); Jennifer, Matthew, Victoria and great-grandfather to Joey, Evan, Eric, Lola, Annie, William and Avery—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. His family was the centre of his world, and he never missed a moment to share in their milestones, offer wise counsel, or cheer from the sidelines.
A lifelong and active member of St. John the Evangelist in Garson and later St. Matthew parish of Oakville, Lefty was a man of deep faith. He served his church community with dedication—whether through volunteer work, fellowship, or simply being a reliable presence in the pews each Sunday. His gentle spirit and steadfast belief were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Lefty was also a passionate sports fan. From baseball to hockey, golf to tennis, he could talk stats, recall plays from decades past, and root for his favourite teams with the enthusiasm of someone half his age. Watching the game with him—whether from the couch or the stands—was a joy in itself.
Known for his kindness, sense of humour, and warm smile, Lefty had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He lived with purpose and grace, always putting others first and spreading positivity wherever he went.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to live on in all who had the honour of knowing him.
A celebration of Lefty’s life will be held on July 10th at 11:30 am at St. Matthew Parish Oakville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Ian Anderson House Residential Hospice. https://www.ianandersonhouse.com/donate/
