Douglas Crosbie

November 29, 1942 — August 31, 2025

John Douglas “Doug” Crosbie of Hamilton passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025. Born in Hamilton on November 29, 1942, Doug was the son of the late Jack and Annie Crosbie. As a boy, he sang in the church choir and spent many summers at Camp Wanakita, memories that nurtured his lifelong love of music, singing and community. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara, and a proud and loving father to their son, Doug.

Some of his happiest memories were summers together on Lake Erie at their cottage “Xanadu” which he lovingly renovated twice. Known for his “passion for pasta” and deep appreciation of good food, Doug enjoyed nothing more than sharing meals and laughter with family and friends.

Doug will be deeply missed by his wife and son, as well as his cousins Doreen Bisbee (Ben), Bob and Nancy McClea. Brothers and sisters Tom, Carol, Donna, Lynda (Scott), Pat, Michael along with his many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were brightened by his humour and kindness.

He dedicated 40 years of his career to Stelco (1962–2002), where he was admired for his hard work, quick wit, and well-timed jokes. After retirement, he continued to serve his community as a school crossing guard, greeting students and neighbours with a smile.

Doug had a deep love for simple pleasures: reading the morning paper, working through crossword puzzles, and sharing a rum while swapping stories. He started the bocce ball league at Garth Trails, played poker at the clubhouse every week, and brought energy and laughter wherever he went; a room was never quiet when Doug was in it. A fan of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, old cars, and the thrill of a good gamble, Doug lived life with spirit and humour.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hamilton Garth Trails Club House on Saturday September 20, 2025 1-4 p.m.
