To all our family and friends, we are heartbroken over the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather Bill Hubar (Geeg)
William (Bill) Hubar, 86 of Hamilton, Ontario died on July 28th 2025 after a long battle with breathing/lung problems which developed into pneumonia.
Bill was born on August 27, 1938 to Anna and William Hubar in Hamilton.
His wife Irene, son Rick Gallo (Caryn), daughter Anita Gordon (Paul) and granddaughter Carly Gordon and grandson Nolan Gallo will terribly miss his love and guidance.
Bill was a highly respected criminal defense lawyer in Hamilton and always felt everyone deserved fair, competent legal representation regardless of their offense or situation.
Bill attended Cathedral High School in Hamilton and graduated in 1956. He went on to St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto from 1957-1959 where he lettered in volleyball, hockey and lacrosse.
He then attended Osgood Hall Law School from 1959-1962 and went on to article for 18 months at the law firm of Ago Cooper (later Agro, Zaffiro, Parente, Orzel, Hubar & Baker) before completing his bar admissions exams in April 1964 when he was called to the bar.
Only two weeks later in May 1964 he tried his first criminal case.
Bill received his Queens Council designation in 1979 which was an extremely proud and deserving moment for him.
After retirement, Bill, his wife Irene and their family enjoyed over 35 years at their cottage in Grand Bend. As a perfectionist Bill spent many hours making the place “look like a golf course” as our neighbours would say. Pride of ownership was his response.
Bill and Irene also travelled from coast to coast throughout Canada including too many locations in Europe, Caribbean, which included Australia and New Zealand. Bill also travelled to Scotland where he played golf at St. Andrews, Troon, Gleneagles and the Royal Aberdeen which he absolutely enjoyed. Being married to a Scottish lass he noted that those Scots certainly know how to treat their golfing gusts. A number of these courses over the years have hosted the Open (British Open).
At Bill’s request, cremation has taken place followed by a private family service. Memorials or donations in his memory may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton.
